IF YOU’RE going to go camping, or spend a lengthy amount of time outdoors, then you’re going to need a torch.
Over the last few years there’s been a real explosion in the popularity of head-torches. You see them everywhere nowadays and the number of models and variations is positively bewildering.
But Gelert has launched a head-torch with a real ace up its sleeve. Not only does it feature LED lights to eak the most out of its battery and give a clean, bright light, but it has the facility to wind up its battery when the juice runs low.
This is really clever because, even though its light-weight lithium battery is no shrinking violet in the lifespan stakes, it gives you the reassurance that, wherever you are in the world, you’ll always have a source of light.
If you don’t mind a few minutes of furious winding, of course.
At first, it looks as though the slightly bulky light and handle unit protruding from the elasticated strap is going to feel awkward and hang down but it’s very secure and, although detachable from the straps, sits nicely on your forehead.
There’s two brightness settings and a flashing mode and a minute or two’s furious winding gives, in practice, at least an hour of light.
I got quite a bit more than that but I wasn’t really counting.
The best bit though, is that it can be bought for under a tenner. Great stuff.
